3D Printer inductions query

Hi just to ask
is there another 3d printer induction coming up?
I’ve not been on one yet and I couldn’t find a link on the wiki

Also I’d guess I need to order a roll of some pla
is there a standard process for ordering that through the space?

Richard…

A 3D printer induction can be arranged. I would ask Bob nicely the next
time you see him and something can be arranged. In terms of ordering PLA
the space doesn’t actually order it’s own separate members do.

I have ordered my PLA from 3Dfilaprint who have always given me good
service and decent quality extrusion

18.75 for a reel (3mm)…of standard colour - I like Black but that’s me!

Other than that the hardest parts are learning how to actually use the
printer as in taking a reel off and inserting your reel, preparing the bed
for printing and which settings to use in the slicing software. Most of us
at the Hackspace use Cura for slicing which can be downloaded here:

https://software.ultimaker.com/?show=all

You will then need to apply the correct settings for the 3D printer you
would like to use which your inductor will show you how to do.

The next part and in my opinion the hardest bit…is how to design stuff
ready for printing. I would start learning to use some 3D CAD software in
preparation. If you have deep pockets then Solidworks or Space Claim are
excellent. Others more clever and dextrous than I use OpenScad. I have
heard people manage with Google Sketchup but I know there are newer
versions now…

Be aware that the maximum dimensions we have to play with are 200mm x 200mm
x 200mm and that large complicated prints take a very long time.

If you have more questions or comment please email or message me and I will
try to help as best I can…

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the info on the filament size and supplier
I’ll order some PLA then ask Bob nicely

For the design that’s not a problem
I’ve been working with solidworks and openscad as the main ones
although the first practical thing I need is a case for my yubikey

I also prefer black, but that’s because I’m batman
and batman only prints in black or very very dark grey
