I made a musical (I use the term loosely
car radiator fan, which
blew out streamers from the ducting when it was going fast and played a
tune when it was going slow, by pulsing the motor on and off. I stuck
another piezo on the motor as a pickup and that then went into an amp.
Electrically it’s dead simple - a RFP30N06LE MOSFET, beefy diode and a
couple of resistors, see for example

Hi all,
I’ve been asked to perform an act at a science/tech show which is
deliberately not educational, and I had the idea of doing a musical
performance but using something I’ve hacked to make play tunes which
normally is not used for playing tunes. Inspired by these YouTube videos:

but it proves it’s possible).
I’d love to do something like the hard drive, and I’ve got an arduino,
basically no electronics skills, some programming ability, a vague
understanding of most technology and lots of enthusiasm. Would anyone be
willing/able to help me put something together in the next month or so? I
can try to come down to a wednesday night (not this week or next week sadly
but after that) and/or if you’re able to direct me via emails I can try to
do it myself. Any advice or tips would be appreciated. Not least starting
with what things I need to obtain in order to do this.
If I get hold of an old hard drive, and someone can direct me to which
bits of it to attach to my arduino in order to do this, that may well
suffice as I can try to figure out the programming part myself, and I would
be eternally grateful.
