Bad news about the Factory, and Future planning.

Hey Everyone,

Janey has contacted me, MCC cant get the factory space. They weren’t able
to get the mortgage company to change their minds on the master lease issue,
so thats that.

A setback, but we can move on!

IMO, we need to split our future plans into short and long-term plans:

Short Term:

  • Speak to MadLab, see if we can get a repeating 2nd / 4th weds booking
    for the meetings.
  • Run monthly hack morning @ MadLab - 3rd Saturday (synchronous
    hackathon)
  • Look for workshop / garage spaces in the city center (within mancunian
    way), aiming for ~100 pcm.

Long Term:

  • MCC are looking for another building where they can do the same thing
as was planned for Factory2010, and would be happy for us to have a space
    there if they find somewhere.
  • Talk to Manchester City Council, explain who/what we are, that we’re
looking for a space where we can run a community technology workshop, and
ask if they can help us find somewhere affordable (or let us use an empty
    shop!)
  • Build up membership, until we’re able to afford to rent a shop / office
in the city center (£500pcm incoming).

Anyone got any other ideas, or comments on the above?

Yea looks like a set of good ideas. I think for the workspace bit, we
need to be a bit more specific, or atleast know what the minimum we’re
looking for is - Something like either 2 rooms, one large and one
small, or one larger room, with a kitchen and toilet/shower? also,
unfortunately, I think that 100pcm is a little optimistic, but we can
but hope…

£100 is about the going rate for parking spaces, it was more of a 'if we can
find a garage for this lets go for it’On 12 February 2010 17:55, Tom Bloor tom.bloor@googlemail.com wrote:
