Beagle Boards!

Hello y’all,

I’m looking into Beagle Boards. I have some questions you clever
people may be able to help with though - I know you’re always dabbling
with them.

  1. Memory expansion
It’s just straight-up DIMMs? Are they comfortable with a couple of gig
    onboard?

  2. Storage
They boot offa SD cards, as I understand. What size can they handle?

  3. Power
What kind of power supplies do they take? Will they happily throw 5v
    out through an SD port?

TIA!

Dave

pretty sure you can’t upgrade the ram on a beagle board. Its onboard.

Any sdhc card, so 32gb I think. But you can use a usb hard drive for
    storage space.

    Not sure.

What are HAC:Man’s favourite boards, then? Anything beefier than a
beagle, ideally with on-board wifi and USB?

That’s a diplomatic answer when clearly I meant USB

Thx Bob!

The only board I know of with on-board wifi is the IGEP (IGEP v2 Board or
IGEP Module) which is otherwise just a beagleboard with 512MB RAM. I can’t
recommend them though, as the Linux support for them is poor. It took me
several months to get all the peripherals working correctly.

Tbh, for anything more powerful than a beagleboard, we normally use a
regular laptop.On Jan 6, 2012 8:00 PM, “Dave Mee” davemee@gmail.com wrote:

Bob & Jim, thanks for your insights; looks like a big MEH. May just
retreat to a laptop.
