Blue Laser Cutter

The laser is currently working, but please read the following:

We’ve renumbered the network, so you’ll need to update your visicut
settings before using the laser cutter.

Either do a git pull, or click Edit > Settings > Download Recommended
Settings, then select “United Kingdom, Manchester, Hackspace” in visicut.
The latest settings will be downloaded and installed.

If you dont have Edit > Settings > Download Recommended Settings, update
your version of visicut.

Ta,
Bob

Unfortunately, the laser has stopped working again.

I downloaded a newer version of VisiCut and also the settings. I was able to cut two bits, but couldnt’ cut any more.

The first bit it cut really well, so hoping it’s not a major problem.

Hi

In reply to Tas, it worked fine when I started and there were no problems until my third piece of ply.

On the third piece, I sent to file from from laptop with Excecute, walked over to the laser cutter and saw that the screen said Run, as per normal. However, when I pressed the small black button in the middle to the key pad nothing happened. After a short pause the screen returned to Main.

I Executed the file from VisiCut again, but once again nothing happened and the screen returned to Main.

I turned the machine off, waited a bit and then tried again. The same thing happened. There were no strange noises, grating or grinding sounds.

The only thing that I’d done differently from the first two pieces was to lower the speed of the cut down from 10 to 9 because the laser hadn’t gone all the way through on some of the curves. However, I wouldn’t think that would stop the machine from working at all.

Yours sorrily

That wasn’t me it was Bob. (Although I did make a joke about you
attempting to break it in the other thread

Sounds like something’s come loose Simon we’ll have an investigate
today. Hopefully it’s a simple thing to fix.

I’m also starting to suspect this laser is plotting against us!

T.

Hmm, I appear to have lost my ability to construct sentences. Sorry
about that, I’m blaming the baby/cold/anything else I think I can get
away with blaming.

Hi All,

I hadn’t seen the above messages until just now - and I’m assuming that as
there was no out of order sign on the cutter that you managed to fix it
yesterday.

I was using the laser cutter today with no problems (about 40 mins total),
but on my last cut I found a tiny black grub screw on top of the work -
looks to be one of those that holds in the rollers.
Very sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it seems like a minor fix.
I’ve put on the out of order sign again, and I’ve taped the screw in
question to the right side of the machine.

Yours also sorrily,

Chris

P.S. feeling overwhelming guilt for being the cause of this being
out-of-order yet again. If there’s anything I can do to help with the
repair, let me know.On Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 10:50:10 AM UTC, tas kay wrote:

Hi all,

Laser cutter is back in action.

Couple of notes:
If you’re using small pieces of material, the vibrations of the coolant
pump is enough to move the material. I have a plan to solve this over the
next week or so.
Engrave is currently being a far higher number than usual to fire the laser

  • close to
50%. I’ll be recalibrating it this week to fix that, but keep it in mind
    for now.
