Derby Maker Faire - Van hire and lift

Good Evening People!

Bob has asked me to organise hiring a van for going to Derby Maker
Faire on the 2nd and 3rd of June. The actual faire is on the 2nd…

I need numbers people! Who is coming, and who needs a lift. The more
people that come the less the van and fuel costs will be…We
definitely need to hire a van for projectorsketch and Hacmannequin so
we may as well pool our resources and all go down together! It is
normally a great laugh and thankfully it’s only to Derby and that’s a
2 hour drive! Not like our last maker faire in Brighton which was 6
hours!!

Let me know asap so I can sort the booking,

Alex

Might be goin with you, I’ll have to get back to you.
If so then what would the contribution to the van pot be (not sure how many
sessions I can go to between now and june)

Cheers,

How do the dates work, is it the sat or sun or both?
Do we go on sat, return sun, or go there and back both days.
I doubt I can do sat (school), but sun maybe

George,

I believe Saturday is the makers meet where Geeks of all ages and
sizes get to meet up and do a show and tell etc and Sunday is the
actual open for the public Maker Faire. If you can’t make Saturday I
don’t think it matters as sunday is the actual gig!

Thanks for responding…you are the only one so far! Once I have
more of an idea of numbers I will come back to you and let you know
what the plan is.

Cheers

I think that it’ll probably be best if I drop it off at madlab before and
get the train on sunday (providing there are trains…)

Not that much, it’s slightly bigger than project a sketch, but it can be
massively disassembled, so it’s easy to transport (pannels can be stacked,
2 t-bar stands then after that), just thought I need o mention that it’s
not finished yet :-D, just in case it isn’t ready by then.

Thanks,

Baz,

Are you taking anything with you that would need to go in the van? I
assume you would be looking to display your hex bot if it’s working.
So far I have the following definites:

Alex
Bob
Baz

If there are only going to be three of us I won’t bother hiring a crew
cab van like we did for Brighton…Its expensive compared to just a
straight van. I must admit I had hoped more people would have been
interested in going…ho hum

Cheers

Alex

Sorry to hear the hex bot still does not walketh…

If you wanted to you could take your 3d printer…there will be lots
of 3d printers there, one more probably won’t hurt…Have you got it
printing well? If so I’m hoping you’ll take small commissions for a
reasonable price!! I want to fix the other 3D printer that we are
currently storing. I figure we may as well get it working and use it
for stuff.

So far I have the following definites:

Baz

If there are only going to be three of us I won’t bother hiring a crew
cab van like we did for Brighton…Its expensive compared to just a
straight van. I must admit I had hoped more people would have been
interested in going…ho hum

Not everyone reads their private email at work.

I will be going.

Apologies Paul,

I didn’t know that you do not have internet access while at work…

So far the list of revellers going to Derby Makerfaire are:

Alex
Bob
Paul
Baz

Maybe:

Tom…

As there are at least four people it looks as if we will be hiring a
crew cab van like we did for Brighton MMF

Here is the Van:

http://www.salfordvanhire.com/salford_car_hire.html

Ford Tourneo - 3 + 3 Van Ref 117

It’s £120 for the weekend not inc VAT and there is the dreaded deposit
and fuel…I estimate the following costs to be incurred:

£144 Van hire inc VAT
£40 - Fuel - maybe less…it depends on weight and driving style. I
promise to be light footed!

£300 - A shedload…better be no damn accidents!! Or we take out the
optional collision damage waiver for £14.40 which brings the deposit
down to £100

Therefore total costs would be: £198.40

and split 5 ways is £39.68 or split 4 ways…if Someone drops out the
cost is is £49.60.

Are you sure we want to do it this way and all go down together? It
is probably cheaper for Bob and I to hire a van and carry the gear and
those with cars drive and offer lifts???

I’m thinking of options. Whatever happens we are going to have to
hire a van to carry the stuff but we don’t have to get one with a crew
cab which drops the costs considerably.

Let me know what you think people

Given the choice, I would prefer to drive myself. I don’t mind giving lifts.

Apologies Paul,

Let me know what you think people

straight van. I must admit I had hoped more people would have been
interested in going…ho hum

Ok…So Baz would rather drive…Fair enough.
Tom / Paul, would you be prepared to travel down with Baz? If so I
will book a smaller transit and Bob and I can travel down in that and
carry the gear and set up.

Cheers
