We came up with the idea that we should do more to promote the
space to get new members. I think we should do things like
advertise more and do some fun project days or weekends where
people could come and do something.

This was raised and discussed at all the last steering meetings and was
agreed. Issue we have is that we don’t have anyone who is willing or able
to run them or at least confirm that they can be sure here.
I’m all for getting these things done, but we need a tidier space where
things are not left stacked up in front of the door (even if it is “safe”)
as this doesn’t engender trust about the space.

I’m all for running the workshops and I’m doing my best to get the
equipment needed and the space into reasonable condition so that we can run
these kind of fun days. It takes time to prepare these things. Music and
Robot hackday at Madlab were a lot of very hard work for Bob and I and I
want to be sure that when we run similar event days we are better prepared
and it’s less work.
These things take time that’s all.
Cheers

I agree with Kat. The space is untidy because it’s over-full. I’ll be
at hack the space day tomorrow and we’ll do what we can to improve it,
but we still don’t have a solution for the e-waste so far as I know.
There’s also a lot of members storing more than their storage box’s
worth of stuff in the space. This is just about manageable at the
moment but if we get more members they’ll be just as entitled to store
projects as anyone else, so we’ll need to crack down on it sooner or
later.On 18 January 2014 13:58, Kathryn Reeve kathryn@binarykitten.com wrote:

Consider this another vote in favour of a tidier space.
We are slowly getting rid of the e-waste (empty my bins will take it away as long as it’s in small enough containers - read cardboard boxes and doesn’t all go out at once). The last lot that was packed to be moved was so large that I couldn’t safely take it down the stairs so it was reliant on people who could lift it to be there at an appropriate time to move it.
Storage space is very much an issue and one that we will need to deal with - yes sooner rather than later. Having more stuff than your allocated box is not necessarily a problem as long as it’s stored safely and not impinging on others use of the space (I’m thinking about the crutches here which I have spent quite a lot of time attempting not to hit my head on). I too have too much stuff in the members area so don’t think for a minute I’m criticising, just observing. We need to get rid of stuff that’s not actively useful or likely to be useful.
More publicity is however also important and we can’t keep putting it off because we’re not ready. We need to make ourselves ready.
