Election Non-Results

Hey All.

Members have probably seen the results of the election by now, and been as
confused as I was. We have the ballots safe, but the ‘results’ page is
only displaying first preference votes, so probably shouldnt be used.

Turns out the Meek STV voting system we chose works great for big
elections, but totally fails when you only have 15 votes cast. Bugger.

I’ve downloaded the ballot file, and tried running it through a series of
different voting systems through openstv, all of which come to different
conclusions. Bugger #2.

We need to get this resolved and get something sorted in the next couple of
days, there are a few options:
A. A candidate could choose to stand down.
B. We could randomly pick a voting system (roll a dice), there are 10
available in openstv, though some don’t give a valid result.
C. Re-run the whole damn election using a different voting system.
D. Something else.

It also appears that due to a date mix-up, I ended the election 2 days
early. If the 4 members who didn’t get to vote wish to cast a ballot, send
me an email and we’ll figure something out.

All in all, this has been a bit of a clusterfuck. I’m going to bed and
hoping someone else can come up with a solution.

I thought it was just not functioning on my phone.

That it didn’t work is a sod. I can’t download the ballots to have a look
at the data but could the results be calculated manually?

If possible it could save the hassle of the other solutions.

I am happy to be one of the people who does the calculation although
another two would be required (to cover everyone).

Yeah, that’s what the BLT file says, but I thought it was only 5 positions

Another thing we could do is rerun without bob standing and one fewer
position, as clearly he was elected, although we should be able to
work that out from the data we already have.
