Anyone got any ideas for group projects, now the arcade cabinet is nearly
finished? Having a few people working on it was great!

Theres always the CNC machine/RepRap/Makerbot idea, and with the
Fablab close by we could quite easily get the main parts madeOn 9 August 2010 10:31, Dean Moore doghousedean@gmail.com wrote:

A group rapid-prototyping machine of some kind would be really useful,
as well as giving us some practice in all sorts of things. I think I
saw some plans somewhere for a slightly-scaled-up RepRap variant where
the head could be swapped out for a Dremel-type thing for milling
work. Having our own machine to get parts quickly made up would help
all sorts of projects.

What do you guys think to making a printer-bits based PCB / mini woodcarving
mill? We have loads of belts, gears, bearings, stepper motors in the
cupboard, and more printers to be stripped, this means the parts cost would
be low, and would give us valuable experience of building something similar
to a reprap. We could use EMC2 on my spare eeepc, outputting to an arduino
control board. Then we just have to build the stepper drivers (an L293 will
drive one bipolar stepper motor).
And while we’re building that, we can start a fund towards buying bits for a
reprap mendel!
