I’m a member of a hacker/maker group across in Sheffield. We’re
thinking of setting ourselves up as a proper hackspace – renting a
space, buying equipment, etc – and while we have some ideas, we’re
curious to know how other groups have organised themselves.
Are you willing to share some information about how your hackspace
functions? Did you incorporate (forming a CLG, perhaps?), do you have
direct democracy or some sort of trustee board, insurance… all the
boring stuff! Obviously we’re doing our own research and think we know
what our plan is, but we’d be really interested to hear about the
options that other, nearby groups chose, and how those are working
out. On the shoulders of giants, and all that.
Of course, as you’re only a short hop away we’ll have you over to the
space to celebrate when we’re set up!
