Hello

Hello!

I just signed up to Hacman so I figured I might introduce myself. I’m Will. I work in the operations department of 37signals(.com) as a sysadmin mostly programming internal automation and systems stuff. I program Ruby mostly, but also use Go and when I really have to, C. You can find my open source code here:

I run the North West Ruby Group, and have done so for years.

I am currently making a robot for the office (in Chicago, I work from home in Romiley south of Manchester) to pick up balls in the ping-pong room. It’s based on a Raspberry Pi and will (hopefully) use the power of the Internet to run it, saving me writing hard AI and image recognition code. I intermittently blog here:

The last couple of articles have pictures & videos of my robot, the rest of the articles are mostly on programming stuff I thought might be “interesting”, or pictures of Paula Deen riding sausages.

I hope to see people around the space when I finally end up having time to commute to Manchester!

Will.

Hi Will,

thank you for the introduction and we look forward to you turning up at
some of the group events. Information about the space is on the wiki and
posted to the mailing list. We also run a chat room on IRC via the
freenode server (#hacman) where a lot of us lurk. If you have question
about almost anything those are the methods of communication.

I’m currently working on a few projects - I recently made an infinity
mirror using an arduino and some very cool WS2811 individually addressable
LEDS which turned out well. I have also been working on a 1Hz to 10MHz
signal generator for the space as we don’t have much in the way of
instrumentation at the moment. We have some oscilloscopes (some better
than others) and a few multimeters but no working signal generator. This
hopefully…when I get it working properly should redress the balance.

I too blog occasionally (less often then other people would like!) here:

I mostly blog about current projects and from time to time technical stuff
like how to use and understand components etc.

Cheers for now

I forgot to mention, I’m also on IRC under the nick ‘will’ (three lower-case Ls) and am present in #hacman. Thanks for the reply!

Hello!

Welcome etc. I’m Charlotte, Javascript developer (
https://github.com/CharlotteGore), although I do C for embedded systems.
I’m building a synth based on C64 sound chips and my next project after
that is a pair of secure one-time-pad based crypto messaging devices.

The space is pretty good. Working laser cutter, 3D printer and lots of very
manly power tools. The members seem pretty helpful and friendly too.

Enjoy!
