Help me set up a Hackspace for Preston

I am greatly in favour of a Preston hackspace given I live in preston, but
if the uni are running it would it only be for students? On Aug 21, 2012 1:57 PM, “Chris Dell” cjdell@gmail.com wrote:

Hi Guys,

I’m hoping you guys will be able to give me the valuable advice I need get
a hackspace going.

The topic of a hackspace for Preston has come up in conversation many
times over the last few months at various gatherings (i.e. Geekups,
Raspberry Jams, etc.) and I have decided to take it upon myself to make
this happen.

Members of the University of Central Lancashire have expressed interest in
seeing this happen and they have suggested that I get in touch with
neighbouring hackspaces to get an idea of the sort of numbers that are
required to sustain a hackspace, charges, costs, set-up etc. I don’t know
how forthcoming you would be willing to provide this information but I’m
assuming you are non-profit?

I’ve set up a website here (work in progress, temp domain):
http://prestonhack.buz.co

Google group here:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/prestonhack

Ideally I want to get a plan together before I start mass promotion (so
that people don’t dismiss on first glance).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

The idea is the university won’t be running it but might be able to
provide funding if enough of their students want to use the hackspace maybe
for uni project work. I would like to see the hackspace run by
the community with donations or at least non-profit charges. On Tuesday, 21 August 2012 14:04:44 UTC+1, Kimball Johnson wrote:

the mailing list but there has not been much traffic :frowning:

Yeah someone else suggested that. I asked everyone who registered
interest to join the mailing list but so far only 3 people have so it’s
pointless posting stuff on there until more people join.

people wont join if you dont post things there! On 22 August 2012 16:36, Chris Dell cjdell@gmail.com wrote:

Parag0n, are you one of the organisers of the hackspace? If so it would be
of great help to me if you could provide figures such as current membership
numbers, average numbers who attend, busiest times etc.

I know people who may be willing to help in setting up a Preston hackspace
but want to know these facts from other hackspaces before doing so.

Thanks
