Dear HacMan peeps,
since you’ve supported the girl geek events quite a bit in the past
year with advice and building skills, I thought it would be nice if we
could see some of you at the next dinner - there will be talks and
drinks and networking. The only condition is that guys have to bring a
girl in order to attend
Cheers
Sam
Manchester Girl Geek Dinner 7
9th March 2011, 6.15-10pm
Location: MadLab, Northern Quarter / Croma restaurant, near town hall
Speakers:
Maria McDade, IBM
Louise Maddison, The University of Manchester
Hwa Young Jung, MadLab
We’re delighted to announce that the 7th Manchester Girl Geek Dinner
will take place in the week of International Women’s Day. MadLab in
the Northern Quarter will host the first part of the evening starting
at 6.15pm, which will see a series of short talks by some of our
favourite girl geeks, along with free drinks and nibbles. Maria
McDade, a manager at IBM UK, will talk about the company’s activities
in engaging women to pursue a career in technology and their recent
’Women in Technology’ events. Louise Maddison is a research student at
Manchester University and won this year’s 'Junk the Jargon’
competition with her talk ‘How computers can find a cure for cancer’.
Hwa Young Jung, one of the founders of MadLab, will give us an insight
into her work in setting up and running one of Manchester’s most
exciting collaboration spaces for the geek community.
Putting the ‘dinner’ into Girl Geek Dinner, the second part of the
evening will take place at Croma restaurant near the town hall, only a
short walk (or taxi ride) from MadLab. We have a reservation for a
lovely little area in the back, and Croma offer us a choice of 2
courses (main + starter) from the full menu for a fixed price. The
restaurant has an extensive menu with plenty of healthy and vegetarian
options. We don’t have any talks scheduled for this part, but we’re
sure there will be plenty to discuss, chat about and network.
