Laser Cutter

The laser cutter is now working again, yay!

*Can people PLEASE not try and fix it if it goes wrong. *

Dont pay for your job if the cutter failed, just send an email to the list
and mark the cutter out of order. I’ve had to spend hours undoing
someone’s attempted fixes before I was able to actually fix the original
problem, which I’d rather not have to repeat.

I’ve also changed some config settings, so will be pushing updated visicut
settings to github shortly.

Ta,
Bob

If that was me I apologise…

HI Bob,

Is the laser OK to use now or should we wait for the new settings
first? I had a quick try with the laser off this morning, and it seems
to be moving a lot slower than usual.

Whack the cut speeds up about 4x in visicut, so acrylic is 8 speed.
Engraving is 100 speed, 20 power.On 24 Aug 2013 09:16, “Jim MacArthur” jim@mode7.co.uk wrote:

Cheers Bob, it’s cutting and engraving perfectly with those settings. On 24 August 2013 10:05, Bob Clough parag0n@ivixor.net wrote:

What about marking? And marking things like circles? That’s what caused the
steppers to freeze on me last time I tried using it! Is that all with the
new Visicut settings?

Charlotte

I tested it cutting some circle tooth profile gears last night, which
seemed to work perfectly. If you have a test file that was failing to cut
properly I can have a go with it and see what happens.

Yes, I’ve been cutting out some fairly intricate shapes including
circles. When I was in last Sunday, it was getting circles wrong and I
could see the vertical axis wasn’t moving smoothly - that was after we
fixed the loose lens, which was a different problem. But now,
everything seems to be working correctly.

I changed Mark (Deep) in visicut to 100 speed / 20 power. I don’t
think it’s quite as deep as “mark deep” used to be, but it’s
definitely marking.On 24 August 2013 10:38, Bob Clough parag0n@ivixor.net wrote:

‘shortly’ has arrived, the new laser cutter settings are now on github!

3mm Acrylic and 3mm Plywood settings are known working, the rest are
reasonable estimates. If anyone tweaks them to be better, please send me a
pull request on github and i’ll get them merged into the recommended
settings.

Bob,

for those of us who are not experts on github…how do we update our

If you are on a mac copy and paste this into the terminal (and possibly linux too)

rm -rf ~/.visicut;
git clone https://github.com/HACManchester/visicut-settings.git ~/.visicut

(well, that worked for me!)

(thanks to Bob who inducted me on the machine this eve - hope to see some of you soon)
