Looking for interview participants!

Dear all in Hackspace Manchester,

I am a PhD student in the School of Architecture, Design and the Built
Environment, Nottingham Trent University.

I am exploring the emerging practice of upcycling – creation and creative
modification of any product with used/waste materials/products
– based on
physical resources (e.g. workshop and tools) and digital resources (e.g.
any websites) at the individual level as my PhD research.

As part of the research, I am looking for potential interviewees who have
some experiences in personal upcycling projects for and by themselves.

The range of products made by upcycling is including but not limited to:

  • Inside-the-home furniture

  • Garden furniture & outdoors

  • Home accessories & decorations (e.g. beddings, clocks, cushions,

lightings, mirrors, frames, candles, rugs, wall decorations, etc.)

  • Domestic appliances

  • Kitchen and bathroom homeware

The interview will take place at your convenient time and *in any
comfortable public place for you. *

It will take approximately *one hour. *

The interview results will be shared with you after the analysis.

If you are interested in sharing your invaluable experiences with me as
well as helping my research, please contact me via:

Email: kyungeun.sung2013@my.ntu.ac.uk; or

Mobile: 07462 733387

Your help will be very much appreciated!

Thank you.

Best wishes,

Kyungeun Sung

Dear all in Hacksapce Manchester,

I am really, desperately looking for interview participants…
If you are upcycling any used products or waste materials, could you please
help my research?
Or if you know anybody who does upcycling, could you please introduce
him/her to me?

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

Best wishes,

I’m sorry I don’t do upcycling…

it isn’t in my opinion feasible with modern electronic equipment. Without
an innate understanding of the function of the circuit and the ability to
make a positive improvement I don’t believe upcycling or repair of modern
electronic products is possible. Even when it is possible there is always
a trade off for doing so, either by voiding the warranty or damaging the
equipment in some way…

I do appreciate the sentiment of upcycling as far too much is wasted in
current society, be it food, furniture, cars or electronics but the issue
is that it isn’t possible or cost effective…most electronics is too small
and too complex to easily improve amd the manufacturing techniques make it
difficult to implement.

Sorry I can’t help you
