Maker Faire 2011 - Details

Everything is confirmed and sorted, we’re going to maker faire!

We’ll have our own HACMan stand, with some of our projects on it (right now,
project a sketch, twitter drummer, tweet n spell and my robots are on the
list. If anyone wants to add anything i need to know by TOMORROW), and
will also be helping out at the UK Hackspaces ‘Temporary Hackspace’, which
will be a hacking area set up in the middle of the electronics area.

We need to sort out who is going (official hacman representatives) by friday
(as makerfaire want a list), and also how we will be getting there (hire a
van? anyone got a big car?), hotels etc.

My current plan is:

Friday
**1200-2100 Head to Newcastle in the van with the equipment etc for the
stand, get everything set up
Evening Hackspace drinks
Night I’ve booked in at Rooms Inn http://www.roomsinn.co.uk/ , stayed
there last year, it was ok, cheap, and had awesome en-suite showers!

Saturday
0900 Arrive at Center for Life
0930 Everything must be set up and working
1000 Event opens to the public
1530 Head back to Manchester (Jees, you’d think my mum could have had her
50th birthday party another weekend wouldnt you!), there should be enough of
you around to look after the stand

Sunday
0930 After a hard nights drinking, someone arrives to look after the stand
1030 I arrive back in Newcastle, to a procession and cheers in my honour
(pretty sure this is how it’ll go)
1800 Tear-down, get everything back in the van, head for home.

We’ll need a volunteer or two to open up on sunday morning. People may also
want to look at twin rooms etc to decrease the cost of hotels. if people
want the details for a hostel thats doing an £18/night deal, send me an
email ASAP (they only have 26 places, and the details have gone out to
everyone who has a stand)

If anyone if heading over just for the Sunday, i’ll be on the 6:40 ( rail
replacement bus :frowning: ) from Manchester Piccadilly

BOOK NOW TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT!

Apparently Justin Beiber has a concert in Newcastle the same weekend as
maker faire. If you want a hotel room, you should book ASAP to make sure
you can get in!

Anyone planning on camping out? March is warm right? On 18 January 2011 18:20, Bob Clough parag0n@ivixor.net wrote:

I’m happy to share a twin room. If anyone else wants to share, let me
know, and when I get around to it (probably Sunday or Monday), I’ll book
a twin instead of a single.

I don’t mind sharing…Let me know if the offer is still open.
