Manchester Hackspace?

Hi,

I was doing a bit of IRC lurking last night, being a newbie round
here. There was some talk about the Manchester Hackspace. What’s the
status of that? Does it exist? Google couldn’t tell me anything
about it.

Regards,

Dave.

Hi Dave,

Welcome to the group! The reason Google can’t tell you anything about the
Manchester group is because they’re at least 5 weeks from opening. Basically
3 people have seen a building they think would be good for a variety of
things - including a hackspace and have invested in it… It needs some work
before they can let anyone in, so until then, they aren’t really talking
much about it.

I know at least one of the people behind the group is on the mailing list,
so if I’ve spoken out of turn, or you want to add something, please speak up
now

Hi Guys,

There’s a team working to get the Manchester hackspace started. We’re
in very early days but should have more concrete launch dates and
startup timeframes in the next few weeks. Currently we’re still
chasing funding and sponsorship, as well as working around the post
office who seem to be doing everything they can to lose our legal
paperwork as much as possible.

Over the next week or so we’ll be launching our website and hopefully
in the months after that operating the actual space. We’re opening it
up to all and any usergroups as a venue to meet and organise, and
hopefully running initially 4 days a week (thursday through sunday) as
a venue where projects and meetings happen.

We’re particularly chasing leads and sources of both equipment and
furniture in Manchester at the moment, so if anyone has suggestions or
knows businesses or venues clearing old kit out, please let me know!

Thanks
