Email should be back up and running again! Apologies for the downtime.

Please let @Quidoigo know of any issues, or post in gripes/groans.

Everybody should already have an account, and emailing to/from Discourse should already be enabled. If, however, you are only receiving this email from the Google Group you may have to wander over to discourse and activate your account. (sorry!)

To activate an account on Discourse:

  1. Go to http://list.hacman.org.uk and click “Log In”.
  2. Select “I forgot my password”.
  3. Enter the email you use to post to the Google Group, and click “Reset Password”.
  4. You should have an email asking you to reset your password, follow the instructions and your new account is ready for use!

If you have any questions hit up @Quidoigo on discourse or on telegram and I’ll be more than happy to help. Apologies for the extended maintenance window, I hope everyone is happy with the end result though!

@Quidoigo how did you do the googlegroup > discourse migration? did you use this https://github.com/pacharanero/google_group.to_discourse ?

I used a heavily modified version of that to account for some of its quirks :smile:

I basically rewrote your massage_indices and some other bits, along with making it group threads by getting the mboxes from directories; I can go more indepth later if you’re interested but right now I have lunch to eat!

If there are quirks or issues would you mind creating GH issues about them
and I’ll try to fix. Or submit a PR?

Note that mbox.rb is more-or-less the version that is shipped with
Discourse.
