Dear all at Hacman,
I just wanted to get in touch to see if you would be able to lend me a hand
with a potentially exciting project. I’m working on a film commission - I
intend to hack in to the workings of a digital video camera, so that users
are fooled into believing that the camera is filming when really it is
paused, and vica - verca. The simplest way to do this would probably be to
re-programme the camera so that the wrong symbol would come up for the
respective functions, eg the round, red (rec) button would come up when
filming is paused, rather than the (pause) symbol, and so on. As you can
probably tell from the language I have used in this e-mail, I have no
experience of hacking or re-programming devices! Your group looks really
interesting, and I would love to come down to the next session Wednesday
the 1st if you’ll have me, as I thought you may be able to offer me some
expertise. I wanted to get in touch before-hand to see if any of you think
my idea is at all possible, as if it is, I would be really grateful if you
could let me know so I can make sure I buy a second hand camera in time to
bring to the workshop!
As I mentioned before, I don’t have many useful skills technology and
electronics wise. However, I am an artist (take a look at my website below)
- perhaps I could offer some creative skills in return? I have been given a
grant for the film commission so can also cover any costs incurred for your
time and equipment.
Thanks for reading and really looking forward to hearing back from you,
Regards,
Olivia
