Scan perhaps, they’re in Bolton. I used Microdirect in the distant past, but they have somewhat awkward returns policies, or they did.
competent, trustworthy
Basically, no, I really didn’t like any of them
When I bought parts for my current PC I used Amazon. Perhaps not the cheapest, but good customer service and returns.

Micro Direct no longer exist.
I’ve bought stuff from Scan before and had no problems, but then I’ve
never had to return anything either. On 6 May 2015 at 17:00, Will Jessop will@willj.net wrote:

I’m not going to shed any tears, had some terrible interactions with them in the past.

Yeah, I think I’d use Scan if I was on a budget or the part was either unavailable, or significantly more expensive on Amazon.

Pretty much easier and cheaper to build yourself (not that complicated and
I’d be willing to help with that)
If you need to build a custom pc - i use PC Specialist (
http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk)
Kat
I built my machine entirely through parts from Scan. The build insurance
they give is quite useful (scansure), especially if you’re shelling out for
some expensive components. Best thing to decide early on though, is how
long you want this machine to last for, and whether you want to be able to
upgrade it a few times or just last out and build another when it becomes
too old.
A well thought out build will last a while, my desktop is 6 years old now
and I’m only just getting to wanting to upgrade the graphics card.
Other thing to look at is the actual manufacturers warranty on parts, as
some will actually cover it instead of the reseller.
If you want pre-built, then Scan, PC Specialists, or grab a copy of Custom
PC and take a look at some reviews - they also tend to have reasonable
builds you can customise to your particular needs. On 6 May 2015 16:56, “Constantin Popp” constantin.popp@gmail.com wrote:

wrong they have to fix it.

Having just built 2 machines using their components I couldnt recommend
scan more. Whats also really nice is they offer a building insurance, if
you break it while your installing it, they will replace it under the
insurance.
They also offer a bespoke building service as wellOn Thursday, 7 May 2015 09:29:19 UTC+1, Constantin Popp wrote:

If you are set on having a company do a build for you then we can do that.
We will get the parts from Scan at the same price that you would pay anyway
and, provided it is not a ridiculously complicated rig, would normally
charge £80 for the build. We would then offer a standard 12-month warranty
on the machine.
You can even have one with Windows 7 - it will be cheaper if we do it that
way, plus you can upgrade to Windows 10 later for free, apparently.
We will use good quality components and usually bung a SSD in there for
speed. If you need a great deal of storage we can always add a high
capacity hard drive as well.
