i am trying to design a pcb with fritzing. now, the jack sockets i plan to
use are not part of the fritzing parts library. so i tried creating my own
with their parts editor. unfortunately, the way the svg has to look like to
make the pcb view happy is not documented. even with adapting the
fritzing’s templates i fail to have fritzing accept my svg. does anybody
know how to solve this issue? the error message is as follows:
"There are no copper layers defined in: /Users/constantinpopp/Desktop/jack
socket nys216 3 pcb4.svg. See this explanation.
This will not be a problem in the next release of the Parts Editor, but for
now please modify the file according to the instructions in the link."
i tried following the explanations with no luck. any ideas would be
appreciated.
or, does anybody recommend another (free) program to create pcb schematics?
Google eaglecad and then get some library files from adafruit and sparkfun.
Google eagle libraries. Then I’d look for a tutorial. Sparkfun does a good
eagle tutorial. After that it is up to you.
Good luck!

i originally wanted to stay away from eagle cad as they only allow
non-commercial use of their product. but i guess i shall try it out
nonetheless. they have a couple of neutrik connectors in their lib, too.
thanks!

Not open source, but costs nothing.

It works well, no restrictions on board size or complexity, no restrictions
on commercial use, fully open source if you want to change it.
I understand it’s hard to change between packages, but that just makes it
less worthwhile investing the time learning Eagle, unless you feel the
commercial versions are worth the money to you.
Eagle has got a lot of traction in the hobbyist community, resulting in a
reluctance to re-learn something else. It’s a classic 'first one is free’
tactic, and it sucks. The costs I could live with if it saves time, but not
the sales strategy. On Sat, Nov 30, 2013 at 7:28 PM, Constantin Popp constantin.popp@gmail.comwrote:
