Purchased - A new hoover just for cleaning

Proposal Type: Small (<£150)

Proposer: Nathan - Visual Arts

Description: I propose that we buy a new, dedicated Hoover just for cleaning the space. Cleanliness was a major concern identified in the recent survey. Currently, we rely on the use of hoovers owned by various subspaces for cleaning, but these are not performing optimally due to their constant movement between different areas and the wear and tear associated with this. Furthermore, it is very hard to find a Hoover and the corresponding accessories needed to use them for cleaning.

A big step to having a tidier space is to make it as easy as possible for people who want to help out cleaning to do so, and not having to go on a side quest to assemble all the pieces needed to hoover up will help with this.

Proposed Purchase:

There are lots of options but something like this Karcher looks solid (£79.98) Karcher WD3 17 Litre Wet and Dry Vacuum 1000W | Toolstation

Proposed Installation:

This new Hoover and all its accessories will be marked as “only for cleaning” with tape much like the bike space tools are currently, and would live in the cleaning area which will be set up in the bathroom during the 15th of July HTHS day.

Budget:

£79.98 + £12.61 per set of 4 reusable bags(Kärcher 28633140 Reusable Vacuum filter bag, Pack of 4 | DIY at B&Q)
Funding type: Fully funded by Hackspace

Health & Safety The new vacuum cleaner should not require a new risk assessment as its use falls under the general cleaning equipment category.

You got my support! I believe karcher sell zippable dust bags rather than the disposable ones. I’d suggest we get some of those and write ‘DON’T BIN ME, UNZIP ME’

Thanks Joe! I’ve amended the proposal for reusable bags

If they’re the same bags as the one woody’s Karcher hoover uses then they don’t actually have a zip. They’re reusable, but you have to empty them out the hole they fill by, so members obviously haven’t been doing that.

So if a member with sewing skills could add some zips to them that would be a massive help for emptying them

@DominiqueTink probably would like a vacuum cleaner in the space

+1 absolutely Nathan :hugs:

What happened with this Nathan?

Ah life just got in his way I think.

I’ll purchase this one. Toolstation link’s gone up to £99.98, but can get the same thing from Amazon for £79 (slightly under original budget!)

Did we want to pick up some of these hoover bags from B&Q as part of this purchase? Or just consider that a consumables list proposal as & when we need it?

Those reusable hoover bags would be good. Make sure to write on them DONT THROW ME AWAY or similar please

Gots the hoover! Will bring it in tomorrow.

Will sort bags out another time.
