questions on cnc machines

hi all,

i tried to get quotes from companies to cnc some aluminium plates for
me. if i got results the prices where just too high. so i wonder if it
would make financially sense to buy a cnc and do everything myself.

i found this machine:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CNC-ROUTER-ENGRAVING-MACHINE-3040-DRILLING-MILLING-ROTATION-SPINDLE-REMARKABLE-/180711670670?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a1341438e

does it make any sense to buy something like this? what other costs
would i have to factor in? could i make faceplates such as these with
this? >

thanks again for the help here.

So long as speed is not an issue it should be all right…though have a
look at the UK CNC forum, they may be able to give you some advice:

I know someone who has one of these routers and is happy with it, although
he only mills dibond.

I looked at these and decided I could make a better one myself…its
just that was 18 months ago and I’m still not there. There are also some
good kits:

hi tony,

thanks for the advice. i had a look through the materials and now i
understand why the quotes are so expensive…
not sure if i’ll go into cnc’ing then… imagine all the dust flying
around and getting into my nose…

anyhow. thanks again.
