Space Move: What can I do to help?!?!?!?!!!

Theres a lot to do if we’re going to make it out if #44 by the end of the
month.

We are planning a ‘Pack the Space’ day on the 23rd of March to get as much
stuff as possible packed up ready to move, if you can make it please do, as
there’s an absolute shit-tonne to do.

If possible, all personal belongings / boxes should be removed from the
space. This decreases the amount of stuff we need to move, and decreases
the possibility of something getting lost along the way.

If you cant make it, please consider helping out before that day by picking
something off the “Before pack the space day” list on the below wiki page.

http://wiki.hacman.org.uk/Pack_the_Space

Thanks,
Bob

Reminder: Pack the Space day is tomorrow, we could do with as many people
as possible to help pack up all the less-often-used tools, equipment and
treasure.

If I can get there I will but it’s looking pretty grim outside at the

The plastic boxes are done, I ended up attacking them with the jigsaw.

If you fancy helping pack though, that’d be great. Will be there from

We are almost homeless, as the lease on our current space is not being
renewed. For the moment we are still at 44 Edge Street.
Today’s open evening should still be on.On 27 March 2013 15:12, Dan Morris danjmorris@gmail.com wrote:

Hello all HacMan people,

I was/am interested in coming along to an open evening, seeing what you
are all about and seeing what kit is available for use by members. I
stumbled upon the fact that you are currently homeless, and wondered if
there’s something I can do to help. I have a contact (brother’s
mother-in-law) who knows the city and its spaces well (she’s worked in
event planning for years in and around the city). As a result, she has
knowledge of and often relationships with many “space” owners. She may be
able to help you out, I’d be happy to ask her on your behalf if you’re
interested. I wouldn’t expect this to cost money (though if she really
helps out, I know she’d love some flowers
If this kind of help is of interest, can you provide the details of what’s
necessary, what’s nice-to-have, and anything that is a definite no-no?

Given your current state of looking for a home, is there still an “open
evening” elsewhere where a prospective new member could meet you? Also, is
there a place where the kit which is available for members to use is
listed?

My current project a clock, with plywood or acrylic/ABS/PLA gearing, with
a microcontroller impulse-driving the pendulum.
Early stages, designs on the back of a beermat (some in Sketchup), and
though I’ve figured out the mechanics, the electonics/control is currently
beyond me. Hoping to utilise my Rasberry Pi  Ideally, I’d laser-cut the
gearing, so access to a laser cutter would be spot on (either through your
contacts, or (unlikely!) because you have a dedicated laser available to
you). The impulse-driven pendulum/ratchet is where talking to the
electronics experts amongst you could really help me.

Finally, and without any understanding of the politics/logistics of trying
to maintain a hackspace during this time of flux, I did notice that the
website is out of date at hacman.org.uk. I can’t imagine you are short of
skill on that front, so can I suggest it is updated to reflect your current
status?

Hopefully that’s not offended anyone or dropped any landmines…

Thanks all,
Dan

I believe we have actually secured a new home! I’m sure Bob will announce something, but I believe people may have the opportunity to see it at tonight’s open evening (sadly I won’t be there since I can’t make the wednesday evenings).

Also, we have a laser cutter available.

Plus, I’d suggest that using a Raspi for such a simple task is massive massive overkill!! You can buy a clock from a poundshop, and take the mechanism apart - inside is a board which generates either a one hertz pulse or two hertz, depending on the clock.

I’ve been thinking about having a kit-list for a while, plus instructions and safety info for all the tools. I don’t believe that we currently have anything, but I’ll try and start a section on the wiki if none exists. I’ve recently started a section with learning resources for various skills.

Finally, Hello! We have open evenings every wednesday, come and have a nosey! Obviously we’re in a state of flux at the moment, but as far as I’m aware, there is overlap between our current space and our new space, so Wednesday evenings should continue.

We are almost homeless, as the lease on our current space is not being renewed. For the moment we are still at 44 Edge Street.Today’s open evening should still be on.

Thanks Ben and Paul. Great news that it looks like you have a new home.
And yes of course the Raspi is embarrassingly huge overkill, I just already
have one. Now every problem looks like it would be better solved with a Pi
Tonight isn’t good for me, however next week or the following week look
good.
I’ll keep my eyes open to see when/where you’re going to be.
Cheers
