TIME SENSITVE PURCHASE PROPOSAL: like-for-like new metal bandsaw (VAT free!)

Proposal Type:
Medium

Proposer:
Mike Hindley - metal

Description:
A Clarke CBS45MD 370W METAL CUTTING BANDSAW to replace out current model (like for like)

I currently have the ability to buy from Machine Mart VAT free, meaning this would be £379 (see below).

The current bandsaw has had a hard life and has several niggles, specifically:

  • Does not cut square
  • Often struggles to cut at all
  • Blade can get thrown off

A new one would mean that maintainers don’t need to spend hours and hours breathing life into an old knackered tool.

Proposed Purchase:
Machine Mart. I can buy VAT free until 7th Nov 2023.

Proposed Installation:
It is a like-for-like replacement, though a new saw will enable me to produce a proper online quiz and hopefully control access to TRAINED USERS only.

Budget:
£379. BUT we have £72 from the sale of some tool holders, making it £307.

If we sell the old saw, we could recoup up to another £100, I’d estimate.

Funding type:
Fully funded by Hackspace

Health & Safety
Risk assessment already exists. The new machine will only be safer as it has less wear and tear and is less likely to throw blades.

You say if we sell the old saw. I assume it will be put up for sale and this is just a replacement? i.e. we won’t have 2 of them.

Yeah, we will get rid of the old one. I’m hoping we’d get £100 for it but that’s just a guess

+1 board.

Please double check the risk assessment is still valid/up to date for this tool (even if they have similar functions). Might also be worth checking the consumable list has the correct blades listed, and if not adding them to the consumables list thread to be voted in at the next members meeting.

Will do, Joe. Do the board +1s count as members?

The one thing I’d mention is that on the original bandsaw we replaced the motor after we got it as the coils had burnt out, that cost us around £91.61. I honestly can’t remember if I bought it myself or we pledge run it.

But we might want to think about if we should keep any parts of the old saw as spares since it’s the same model.

Boards do not also count as members. One or the other. (E.g. If you needed 2 board and 5 members, and then 5 board replied that could be counted as 2 board and 3 members)

Thank you everyone we are GO GO GO with this.

I’ll buy this, then take care of selling the old one and only invoice the space for:

  • £379
  • Minus the £72 from the sale of the old tool holders
  • Minus the sale price of the old saw.
