Doesnt look like i’m going to be able to make it on December 17th for the
hack day.
So we need to decide if we should:
- Cancel it
- Move it (if madlab have a day free we can move it to)
- Keep it where is is and have someone else open / close up (need a
volunteer)
But we need to decide now-ish so I can inform madlab.
Few people have been able to make it to the last few of these events, what
do people want to do with them in general?
Personally I think it’s worth trying to re-launch them in the new year,
with a bit of a marketing blitz. Advertise what we have (tools & knowledge
wise), when we’re open, and emphasise the open access aspects.
If anyone has any Ferric Chloride spare for the etch tank could they
please bring it to tonights’ HacMan meeting. I am trying to refill Mr
Bubbles. I filled it the last time and Bob got the neutralizer…I
have one 250g bag of etch crystals which is enough to make 500ml of
fluid. The tank is 5 litres so we will need 2.5kg of crystals. I
can’t find anyone to sell me 2.5kg for a reasonable amount!
Cheapest I have found so far is:
http://www.megauk.com/pcb_chemicals.php
who will sell 2.5kg for £13.90…the problem is they have a minimum
£30 order cost. If anyone knows of anyone else who sells etch
crystals can they let me know…

I can’t make the 17th. I can’t make tonight either.
I should be able to come more frequently in the new year.Date: Wed, 30 Nov 2011 16:04:57 +0000

I’m going to be in at madlab on the 18th, testing out my new circular saw
(yaay) by building a second workbench. If anyone fancies coming along for
an unofficial hackday or to give me a hand, we can make as much noise as we
want

I may well have this weekend free now, so will probably be in town
at least one of the 17th or 18th.

We got quite a lot done yesterday!
We built another workbench, with the same design as the first one. Cutting
the wood with a real circular saw meant each cut took 30 seconds instead
for 10 minutes, so the whole bench was pretty much cut and assembled in the
same time it took us too cut the last one.
Both benches now have built in electricity. There is an isolation switch
for each that turns off the front plug sockets and the rear 'bench tool’
sockets. Equipment like the pillar drill and battery charger should stay
plugged in permanently, and be disabled using the isolation switch before
leaving. These still need RCDs adding really, but after spending 70 quid
on the electrical bits I was a bit tapped out!
We also ran some ethernet cable, so we should shortly have interwebs in the
electronics bench pc and on the back computers. This still needs the cable
clips attaching to get it to where it needs to go, but it was 9pm by that
point so we decided to sod it.
Thanks to Ben, Kat, Hwa Young and Dave for helping out.On 8 December 2011 13:07, Bob Clough parag0n@ivixor.net wrote:

well done!
Do the rear isolation switches not already have built in RCDs’? If
they don’t I will look for some…I have a plug in one somewhere that
I keep meaning to bring down.
Hopefully I will get over this chest infection for wednesday…

Nah, they’re just fused 13A switches, the same type used for immersion
heaters etc.On 19 December 2011 12:59, Alexander Lang alexanderlang1980@googlemail.comwrote:

Yeah, we used double pole fused isolation switches… although a version
with neon in would have been nice.On Dec 19, 2011 1:08 PM, “Bob Clough” parag0n@ivixor.net wrote:
